Western Red Cedar (Thuja plicata)
We work in close cooperation with a small company based near
Vancouver, British Columbia, which specializes in hand deconstruction of old
growth cedar sawmills. The reclaimed lumber and timbers are carefully
salvaged from buildings which are being removed so that the mills can expand and
modernize their facilities. Red Cedar is as rot and bug resistant as
redwood and is used extensively for outdoor applications or where the wood is
exposed to the weather (decks, porch posts, railings, trellises, foundation
support beams, siding). The honey colored wood is also used as paneling
inside homes. Another specialized use for Western Red Cedar is for sauna
construction.
